Let’s Learn SUMMER 2025

COLLABORATIONS

Omar H. Ali, Ph.D.
Saturday, June 7, 3:00-4:00 pm EDT (time zone converter)

Join historian Dr. Omar Ali as he leads us on a walking tour of the 350-acre Guilford Woods of North Carolina. We will visit the 300-year-old Tulip Poplar tree that was the launching point of the eastern seaboard Underground Railroad in the early 19th Century.

Walking through the woods, Dr. Ali and others will share the history of the area, read excerpts from primary source accounts (journals and runaway ads), look at material culture and discuss the oral history of runaway enslaved people (maroons), and explore the ways in which we the people—of all backgrounds and cultures—can come together to create community and connectivity underground, overground, everywhere.

Dr. Ali is a co-founder of Let’s Learn! This tour through the Guilford Woods—and through American history—is a collaboration between Let’s Learn! and The Freedom Festival.

Hikaru Hie (Japan) and Yvette Alcott (Australia)
June 13th, Friday 8pm EDT / June 14th 9am JST & 10am AST (time zone converter)

Bring the joy and the benefits of using Improvisation and its most basic tenet, “Yes, And…”  to your everyday life.

Having a “Yes, and…” mindset enhances your listening, communication, and collaboration skills. It can help you to solve problems in unique ways and open your mind to possibilities you may never have thought of before. Apart from all that, improvising with “Yes, and…”  is fun and a great stressbuster!

This session is for everyone. You don’t need to know anything about theatrical improvisation or be a comedian or performer. This workshop is a collaboration between Let’s Learn! and the Global Play Brigade. It will be led by Hikaru Hie of Japan and Yvette Alcott of Australia. Join them for group activities that will have you playing and improvising with the notion of “Yes, And…” with a view to incorporating it into your life to make everything go better!
